...and ‘fumble in a Fiat’ is also breaking the regulations
A COUPLE caught having a “fumble in a Fiat” by police at a South Derbyshire beauty spot have been fined for breaching Covid rules.
Officers have told how they noticed the couple “relaxing” in a Fiat at Mercia Marina in Willington, joking it was clear that they were not involved in “essential exercise from a sedentary position”.
They were then fined for breaching the coronavirus restrictions. It was a busy week for the Melbourne and Mercia Safer Neighbourhood Team, as they also caught a non-essential business in a nearby village opening its doors to clients. They were also given a fine.
Close to the village of Swarkestone, in Moor Lane and Lowes Lane, officers tackled antisocial behaviour and also issued fines to people caught making non-essential journeys for “inappropriate after-dark activity and drug use”. In the same area a person was issued with a cannabis warning for possession of illegal drugs.
Across the River Trent, at Red Lane, near Repton Shrubs, as part of a partnership with South Derbyshire District Council’s community safety enforcement team, officers were kept busy catching people fly-tipping. As a result of an investigation with the council, a £400 fixed penalty notice was issued to a “thoughtless person” who thought it acceptable to discard rubbish in the countryside.
Another rogue individual was given a caution for a duty of care offence. In Melbourne, a male was spotted drinking alcohol in the street and had to be moved on after being fined for breaching covid regulations.
The team posted on social media about their busy week.
A spokesman said: “Officers from Melbourne and Mercia Safer Neighbourhood Team have been conducting highly visible patrols across all policing beats.
“Local residents have been engaging with us and stressing the importance that everyone needs to play their part in adhering to current Covid-19 restrictions.
“Quite rightly, this means that officers have been speaking to people and explaining the importance of following the guidance to protect public health during the pandemic.
“Remember, please keep safe and stay home.”
