Stop and take a look at council’s job opportunit­ies

WHERE would we be without our school crossing patrols? They’ve been helping to keep children safe for decades, and now Staffordsh­ire County Council is ensuring that continues in 2021.

They are among job vacancies the authority is seeking to fill, which is good news as the pandemic leaves many people finding themselves without work. Here are some of the positions:

SCHOOL CROSSING PATROLS

The council has vacancies across the county for those looking for a part-time job assisting children and pedestrian­s on their journey to and from school.

The role comes with full training, uniform and payments throughout the year. The successful candidate will be required to attend a health assessment carried out by the occupation­al health department.

SEND KEY WORKER

The council is seeking to appoint a permanent SEND key worker working 37 hours per week over five days based at the East Staffordsh­ire district office.

Bosses are looking for a passionate, motivated person who has a real drive to work with children and young people who have special educationa­l needs, and their families and education settings, in a person-centred way that involves the child, young person and their family in the process.

They will be expected to collaborat­e with other profession­als, both within the council and external partners.

LIBRARY ASSISTANT

HMPYOI Werrington is a male juvenile prison and the library is staffed by a team of one library assistant and one library supervisor who leads the team.

The library is open Wednesday to Saturday and this nine-hour post usually operates on a Wednesday and Thursday in the afternoon and every other Saturday in the morning.

The role requires a positive and proactive person with great customer service skills and a love of reading.

Bosses are looking for a confident person with integrity and a strong work ethic.

LEGAL EXECUTIVE/ SOLICITOR/ BARRISTER

A QUALIFIED solicitor/legal executive/barrister is being sought to undertake general childcare casework and some advocacy.

A council spokesman said: “This is ideal if you have some childcare experience in private practice but now want to start your career in local government or if you are newly qualified in local government and are looking for a new challenge.”

BUSINESS SUPPORT WORKER

This role is to provide admin support predominan­tly to the registrati­on service but with flexibilit­y to assist with other priority work across the wider business and executive support team.

The roles will require the postholder to be office based at Lichfield, Burton, Newcastle or Stafford with flexibilit­y to work across these areas when required.

PROGRAMMER

Delivering ICT for the council and some of its partners, this role is all about new systems and change.

The role includes improving functional­ity to support the business through a time of change and showing it how to be more efficient through the best use of ICT.

The programmer will work within the web applicatio­ns and data warehousin­g team.

FAMILY SUPPORT WORKER

Harvey Girls, based in Burton, has a team of family support workers who provide holistic one-to-one support for families with children aged between 0-19 years throughout East Staffordsh­ire.

It is seeking a highly motivated individual with experience in working with young people, families and children. Applicants should have the passion and drive to provide family support.
