MIDDLESBROUGH hope new signing Nathaniel Mendez-laing can play a part against Derby County at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday.

Nathaniel Mendez-laing, who attracted interest from the Rams during the transfer window, has not played since his release from Cardiff City last September

Now he has teamed up with former Cardiff boss Neil Warnock with Boro and was an unused substitute in their 4-1 defeat by Brentford on Saturday.

“He’s going to train every day now in the next week and he might be ready for 20 minutes against Derby next weekend,” said Warnock.

“He’s looked useful in our training games so far. I just don’t want to bring him into it too early and he pulls a hamstring after five minutes.

“We’ll monitor him closely and see how that goes.”

Mendez-laing helped Cardiff win promotion to the Premier League in 2018.
