Two police officers believed to have breached Covid rules

-

TWO Derbyshire police officers have been given Covid fines for breaching lockdown rules, it has been claimed.

The Burton Mail understands that two serving officers with the force were fined by Leicestershire Police late on Sunday night, February 7, or in the early hours of Monday morning, February 8.

A source who spoke to Derbyshire Live said the pair, who both live near the border between Derbyshire and Leicestershire, were fined after on-duty police officers in the neighbouring county spotted them meeting up.

The source also told Derbyshire Live that both officers have been reported to Derbyshire Police’s Professional Standard’s department.

When Derbyshire Live contacted Derbyshire Police for comment, along with asking for confirmation of the names of those involved, it was told the force could neither confirm or deny whether any officers had been fined.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: “We are unable to confirm any names that are presented to us from a media outlet unless someone has been charged for an offence.

“We expect all of our staff and officers to abide by the law and any regulations that are currently in place.

“The force takes any breaches very seriously and any that we are made aware of will be investigated and addressed accordingly.”

Leicestershire Police said it could not comment unless it was given details of where and when the Covid fines were given out.

It comes as police in Derbyshire, along with other forces across the country continue to crack down on people breaking lockdown rules.

Officers have recently fined dozens of people for breaking the rules, including people who have held parties in the county and some who have travelled from as far away as London.

Last weekend officers at Staunton Harold Reservoir, near Melbourne, fined a man who had driven 100 miles from Lancashire to meet up with his girlfriend, who lives in Leicestershire. Officers also fined a couple who were having what police described as a “fumble in a Fiat” in Willington. A man found naked in a vehicle in a car park was also fined.
