HOMES in a South Derbyshire village were left without water or with low water pressure in for a second day due to a burst water pipe.

Residents in Findern, Etwall, Willington, Hilton and Repton were affected by water issues throughout Monday and yesterday morning.

They had no or little water coming from their taps, with low water pressure also reported.

By yesterday afternoon, the majority of areas had water, apart from Findern, and teams from South Staffs Water had worked through the night to repair the pipe.

A spokesman said yesterday: “Work has continued through the night and the repair continues to be a challenge.

“We are working very closely with other utilities and the Highways Agency to work safely.

“Although the majority of areas, with the exception of Findern, currently have water, we are expecting that as we move into the morning, and demand rises, this may change and the loss of supply will become more widespread.

“We will continue to work with our vulnerable customers and for those who are able to collect water, our bottled water distribution hubs will re-open.

“We are continually reviewing the situation”

Water hubs where residents could go to fetch supplies of bottled water were available at Findern Village Hall, Repton Primary School, John Port Spencer Academy in Etwall and Hilton Village Hall.

South Staffs Water’s wholesale director Pete Aspley said in a video posted on the company’s social media page that the leak had been

There had been reports of delays on the A38 southbound yesterday morning caused by works off a slip road on the Egginton/willington turn off.
