Lions thank store and customers for food bank donations

-

A CHARITABLE group has thanked a supermarket chain and its customers for their help in donating and collecting food items to go on the shelves of its food bank.

Swadlincote and District Lions Club runs a food bank in the town for needy people, and over the past few weeks it has been helped by Morrisons in Swadlincote.

A spokesman said: “Swadlincote and District Lions Club and would like to thank most sincerely all those very kind Morrison’s customers who supported our recent Food Collection and also our deepest thanks to Morrison’s at Swadlincote for allowing us to collect for the last number of weeks. During this time of collecting many full trolley loads were taken to our local food bank, now working from the Baptist church in Hill Street to help the dozens of people and families in and around Swadlincote who are less fortunate than ourselves making this particularly difficult time a little easier.

“The food bank has never been more busier than during the pandemic and do need to continue receiving food donations as all the problems still remain and will do so for the foreseeable future.

“It is well over 40 years now that this club has been collecting food at this time of the year. Sadly, because of the Covid restrictions were not able to stand to receive and thank the food donations in person, hopefully will see us return as in previous years. We are all in awe of the huge generosity and kindness of the people of Swadlincote and district and must have collected many thousands of items of food for our district during those years.”
