German shepherd dog with a huge tumour found abandoned in grounds of derelict shop

-

RSPCA chiefs are still trying to track down those responsible for abandoning an old dog with a huge tumour.

The RSPCA is still trying to find out who dumped a German shepherd cross they have now named Shadow after the elderly dog was found in the garden of an empty shop in Waterloo Street, Burton.

The dog was left in freezing conditions with no food or water and had a tumour the size of a golf ball.

The animal charity said the shop was derelict and when asked by the Burton Mail who the tenant was, said it was unable to find out as East Staffordshire Borough Council would not tell them.

A council spokesperson said: “The council is in communication with the RSPCA and will assist where possible.”

Shadow was found clearly underweight, her fur was filthy and she had an untreated tumour the size of a golf ball on her neck.

She is now on antibiotics and will be undergoing tests to see if she requires an operation to remove the tumour.

Shadow was not microchipped and now animal rescuer, RSPCA inspector Ann Bennett, is appealing for information to trace her owner the charity was unable to get any answers from the council.

She believes Shadow was abandoned by her owner probably because she was elderly and they could see she needed treatment for a tumour.

At this stage the charity does not know if Shadow was dumped in the garden of the property or if she was abandoned nearby and wandered in but the garden was enclosed.

Anyone with information should call the RSPCA appeals line on 0300 123 8018.
