Expanded Options On Show at Derby College Group Virtual Open Days

-

An expanded range of study programme options will be showcased during a series of virtual open days held by Derby College Group (DCG) in the coming weeks.

The online events are an opportunity for young people and adults alike to get advice and guidance from specialist teaching, careers and support staff through live chat rooms and to join webinars which highlight study programme content and future career and higher education options. As well as information on full time study programmes starting in September 2021 and on-going apprenticeship opportunities, the events are an opportunity to learn more about work experience opportunities, gain impartial careers advice and discuss the wide range of support available to students.

New study options available this September will include the extended T-level programme which is already underway for students in Professional Construction, Digital Production and Education and Childcare.

These will be joined by T-levels in further areas of Professional Construction and Digital studies as well as the new areas of Science and Health.

T-levels are equivalent to A-levels with a strong focus on work placements and are designed to ensure young people are better prepared for the world of work.

There are also new programmes in the growing area of Esports which are designed to develop vital skills that will open doors to further study and potential careers in a wide range of roles from being professional players, shoutcasters and video editors to software engineering and cyber security.

Information available is specific to the study programmes available at DCG’S four colleges in Derby, Morley and Ilkeston and it is therefore advisable to check which courses will be focus at each event by visiting the website https://www.derby-college.ac.uk/ news-events/events and register in advance for the virtual open day that best suits an individual’s career plans.

A dedicated event link will then be sent over 15 minutes before the start of each virtual event.

The first virtual open day on Wednesday February 24 between 5pm and 7pm will be for the study programmes available at Broomfield Hall in Morley including Land-based, Sport, Inclusion and Public Services.

A-level, Digital and Creative study programmes available at the Joseph Wright Centre will be the focus on the next virtual open day on Thursday March 4 between 5pm and 7pm.

On Thursday March 11, 5pm to 7pm, the focus will be on the Roundhouse technical and professional skills college in Pride Park which range from Construction and Childcare to Business and Engineering.

Then on Thursday March 25, again between 5pm to 7pm, there will be a virtual open day to highlight the range of study programmes available at The Community College in Ilkeston, which include Brickwork, Welding, Painting and Decorating as well as Childcare, Health and Social Care and GCSES.

DCG Vice Principal Kate Martin explained: We have had some very positive feedback from prospective students and their parents/carers about previous virtual open days which are quick and easy way to find out about all the study programme options available here.

We have developed ways for prospective students to speak to teaching, careers and support teams to help them plan their future careers and guide them through the application process which are working very well.

With so much uncertainty around GCSE grading, it is important for young people to consider all options available to them and ensure that they apply early for the study programmes that will help them progress onto the next stage of their lives.
