Griffiths meets heads online ahead of March reopening

-

BURTON MP Kate Griffiths has hosted a meeting with local head teachers online in advance of the return of pupils to schools on March 8.

On Monday, the Prime Minister published his road map to exiting the lockdown restrictions, which confirmed all schools and all year groups would return to the classroom by the second week of March.

Ms Griffiths heard from school leaders about the work they and their staff are undertaking to ensure the safe return of children to schools. Schools are putting in place additional measures to keep both pupils and school staff safe such as regular handwashing, strict hygiene protocols, staggered lunchtimes and open drop-off areas.

The MP thanked the teachers for all their hard work over the past year to ensure pupils were able to carry on learning from home. Ms Griffiths discussed with the head teachers the return of pupils to school and offered to raise any points they wanted highlighting with the Department for Education to ensure this goes as smoothly as possible.

She said: “It was really good to speak with the head teachers of the local primary schools in our area and have an opportunity to thank them all.

“Teachers have done an incredible job over the past 12 months to ensure that every child is able to continue learning from home in what have been difficult circumstances for everyone; children; teachers and parents.

“I am pleased the Government is ensuring that schools are the first thing to reopen, it is right that we prioritise children’s education as we begin to ease the lockdown measures and I will continue to work with the school leaders in my constituency to make sure the return is a success.”
