THE name of a man who died after being hit by a train at a Derbyshire station has been released by the authorities.

Richard Wilson, who worked as a college lecturer, died as a result of the incident at Dronfield Railway Station on Friday.

An inquest into the death of the 48-year-old, who was from Dronfield, was opened at Chesterfield Coroner’s Court on Tuesday.

Peter Nieto, coroner for Derby and Derbyshire, said the train involved had been travelling from Nottingham to Liverpool and was making its way into Sheffield at the time of the incident.

He added there were no other witnesses apart from the driver of train.

The inquest was adjourned until a later date while further enquiries are carried out. Emergency services were called to the scene on Friday morning after a man was hit by a train. British Transport Police later confirmed a man had died at the scene. A spokesperson for Btpolice said at the time: “British Transport Police were called to Dronfield railway station at 10.30am this morning (February 19) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. “Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
