Theme park and other attractions looking forward to reopening date

-

ALTON Towers will be welcoming back thrill-seekers in just 45 days.

The Staffordshire theme park yesterday confirmed the resort will reopen on April 12.

Self-contained accommodation on the site will be open for overnight stays from the same date although the hotels will remain closed.

The news comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the four stages of lifting restrictions on Monday. An Alton Towers spokesman tweeted: “In line with the latest Government guidance, we are delighted to confirm that we plan to open Alton Towers Theme Park and selected self-contained accommodation from April 12. We can’t wait to see you soon!”

Here are some of the safety measures guests can expect:

1. Restricted number of guests, with everyone is being asked to book in advance online

2. Temperature checks upon arrival

3. Social distancing markers on the plaza and around the resort, with clear walking routes

4. Sale of takeaway food and drinks will be limited to ‘grab and go’ items including hot and cold drinks and snacks. Note that card payments only will be accepted

Other attractions have also announced when they hope to see visitors. A Chatsworth Estate spokesman said: “Following the Government’s lockdown road map announcement, Chatsworth has begun drawing up plans for reopening, which we will share as soon as they are ready.

“Safety will remain a top priority, but Chatsworth is looking forward to welcoming back visitors to the house, garden and farmyard.”

Dr Sharon Redrobe OBE, CEO of Twycross Zoo, said: “We are pleased the Government have now given us a date for Twycross Zoo to re-open so we can welcome visitors back safely for a day out that makes a difference to our charity.

“2021 is looking like another difficult year for us so we call upon our communities once again to support us by any means they can.” ■■Zoo plea: Pages 14&15
