Vandals smash beer shop window with a plastic tree

-

OWNERS of a beer business have been left in shock after two vandals were seen using a plastic tree to smash its windows.

Brews of the World, in Station Street, Burton, was targeted by vandals who left a trail of green plastic tree leaves from the plant they used to the smash the shop windows in the early hours of yesterday.

Its owners, Chris Mccormack and Robin Ludlow, said the cost of the repair could be as much as £1,200.

The shop has now revealed CCTV footage showing two seemingly drunken people walking past the shop, before grabbing a plastic tree from a planter outside nearby Italian restaurant Veneziaa and using it to smash the windows at Brews of the World.

Mr Mccormack told the Burton Mail: “The CCTV shows these two youths walking down the road and they pull one of the trees out of the planter and smash it against the window and then they run off round the corner carrying the tree.

“It is just disappointing but it is not a major blow as we do have cash reserves and we are awaiting a grant from the council.

“It is just the damage that is annoying.”

A post on the business’s Facebook page alongside a video said: “Simple bit of detective work. I’m think I am about right with this one. Couldn’t have been a malicious attack on our good selves surely? We are good, decent people.

“We are always polite, serve top quality ales always in great condition. What’s not to like about us? Putting this one down to a random act of vandalism.”

In footage of the aftermath, pebbles from the tree planter can be seen inside the shop close to the smashed window.

The tree is also missing from the planter pot outside Veneziaa.

Plastic leaves from the tree along with some pebbles are also dotted around the pavement heading to Guild Street as the criminals ran off.

Brews of the World was open for business yesterday.

At the time of going to press, the incident was yet to be reported to Staffordshire Police.
