How your dogs have kept you going in lockdown

- By JENNY MOODY jennifer.moody@reachplc.com @Jenny_moody85

DOGS are great company for people on their own and families alike.

They are there when you are feeling low or want someone to talk to without feeling judged and are a godsend if you’ve had a bad day at work.

This past year has been a tough one as life changed completely due to the pandemic. The things we took for granted such as meeting friends for a coffee or spending time with family were stripped from us.

Lockdown has impacted all of us in different ways but we have stayed strong as we battle through it.

As we are told to stay at home to help save lives, one thing for sure is our dogs are not complaining, as they have made the most of it – by enjoying lots of walks.

They have been by our sides and supported us through the dark days. We asked readers to share pictures of their faithful pooches and asked if they had helped them during lockdown.

This is what you shared with us: Sue Day posted a picture of Missie. She said: “After eight weeks homeschooling the grandkids, Missie thought...hey I’m taking over this table now.”

Rachel Eyley shared her devastation of losing her beloved dog. She said: “My dog had a puppy in September, she was my rock and number one partner in crime, she was my best friend through lockdown, her name is Luna.

“Unfortunately, she gained her angel wings on Saturday after a spinal collapse so she won’t be able to come to the pub to sunbathe in the beer garden or be able to have our ‘doggy bags; when we’ve been out for dinner.

“Luckily, we kept her pup, her name is Misty Moon, and she is helping with my grief for her momma. Sending thoughts to those who’ve also lost pets. The pain is unimaginable.”

Molly Davis shared a picture of Paddy enjoying the sun. She said: “Paddy has gotten me through all the lockdowns, we lost his brother in

June so it’s been tough on both of us.”

Louise Mulgrew shared a picture of Buster. She said: “My beautiful boy Buster was a godsend, sadly passed last month.”

Kevin Tizzard shared a picture of his dogs enjoying the sun. He said: “They’ve been spoiled rotten having

me working from home 2/3 days a week.”

Jon Lewney shared a picture of Bijli out enjoying a walk in Burton. He said: “Lockdown? She’s helped me through life. She’s strong, brave, obedient, she’s patient and loving.

“They say you have one great dog, Bijli is mine.”

Jane Walker Hollands shared an adorable picture of Ruby, who died recently. She said: “My beautiful Ruby, who sadly passed away three weeks ago age 13. She was an amazing friend before and during Covid and will forever be my happiest hello and my saddest goodbye.”

Fay Hunt shared a lovely picture

of Dolly. In response to the question of whether her dog had helped her through lockdown, she said: “Yes 100%. Thank you Dolly.”

Coral Haywood shared an adorable picture of her dog.

She said: “My absolute world, my best friend and my total saviour in lockdown.”
