Final journey past beloved shop for Peter

-

THE funeral cortege of a muchloved shop worker will go past the Burton menswear store where he worked for 65 years.

Peter Miller’s cortege will go past the Burton store in Station Street after special permission was granted for vehicles to access the pedestrianised street.

Since Mr Miller, 80, died on March 8, there has been an outpouring of grief from shop workers and his many customers down the years who have also left floral tributes outside the shop, which has since closed down. Many touching messages were also made on social media.

Messages of condolence have also been left outside the former shop, which Mr Miller joined as a Saturday boy.

At that time 85 per cent of the business the shop did was selling bespoke made-to-measure suits. The cheapest suit was 7 guineas (approximately £180 today).

In the late 1960s, shirts and ties were introduced to the range, which gradually evolved to accessories and shoes.

Burton closed due to the collapse of the Arcadia Group during the pandemic. All the staff lost their jobs.

Staff from the shop previously described him as “absolutely brilliant” and someone who “always had time for everyone”.

Despite his age, Mr Miller only retired from the clothing shop in February last year after problems with his legs.

He will be making his final journey past Burton at 10am on Tuesday, April 13, and anyone who would like to say a final farewell is invited to gather in Station Street, but stay socially distanced.

Due to limited numbers on attending the funeral there will be a web link to watch live for all those that can not attend, which is available by visitingwesleymedia.co. uk/webcast-view Login / Order ID: 88540. Password: vkndwemg/

Anyone wishing to make a donation to his chosen charity St Giles Hospice can do so by visiting peter-miller-1940-2021.muchloved. com
