Burton spent £56.7k on fees

-

SEVEN League One clubs spent less than Burton Albion on agents’ fees in the year from last February to this, according to new figures released by the Football Association.

The Brewers paid out £56,720 in a period which – coincidentally – covers the time in which clubs have not been able to have supporters paying to watch matches. Accrington Stanley, Rochdale, Swindon Town, Wigan Athletic, Crewe Alexandra and Fleetwood Town all returned figures below that, while Gillingham are listed as not spending a single penny.

Hull City, who started the period in the Championship, paid out £543,238 in fees and, predictably perhaps, of the teams who were also in League One last season, Sunderland laid out the most, £406,207, followed by Ipswich Town, £341,622.

The statistics refer to fees paid in negotiations for transfers and loans or when existing players had contracts renewed. That involved 14 players in Burton’s case, so while other players did arrive on loan in the period, it can be assumed that an agent’s fee was not involved in the deal. ■■The players were: Colin Daniel (renewed contract), Tom Armitage, Ben Hart (new contracts), Owen Gallacher (transfer in, then renewed contract), Kieran O’hara, Neal Eardley, Josh Parker, Kane Hemmings, Charles Vernam, Steve Lawless, Terry Taylor, Tom Hamer, Jonny Smith (transfers in) and Ryan Broom (loan deal).
