Everything in the (beer) garden is lovely ahead of reopening...

-

FIVE beer gardens at pubs in Burton and South Derbyshire have been given major facelifts ahead of their reopening next week.

The Marston’s pubs have been busy getting their gardens ready for welcoming drinkers back by undergoing revamps using bespoke design plans, all of which include updated heating and lighting systems.

Some pubs will also get an orangery-style garden room; teepees; marquees; awnings; and jumbo umbrellas so drinkers stay warm if the British weather gets chilly.

The pubs which have been seen beer garden facelifts are the Midway Inn, in Midway; New Inn, in Ferry Street, Stapenhill; The George and Dragon, in Main Street, Alrewas; The Plough, in Horninglow Road North, Burton; and The Sump, in Newton Road, Winshill.

From Monday, pubs and restaurants can reopen to customers as long as they were served outdoors in places like beer gardens and outdoor seating areas under the Government’s roadmap out of Covid lockdown restrictions.

Martin Mitchell, manager of The Sump, said: “We have missed everyone so much, it’s been long but fantastic working and getting things ready for reopening. We welcome everyone in the community to come and see the new addition we have in the garden and enjoy a meal and a drink.”

The focus on these newly re-purposed spaces has been in development since last year following the success and demand for outdoor areas during the summer period. The announcement of Marston’s initiative follows Boris Johnson’s easing of lockdown restrictions as part of his roadmap.

Alongside these new garden spaces, Marston’s has introduced an online ordering system called Marston’s Tap for food and drinks which guests can use during their visit, as well as for takeaway services.
