Normal hours from Monday at shop sites

-

SHOPS up and down the country are getting set to reopen after another lockdown forced them to shut for a third time.

On Monday, shoppers are set to flock to their town centres in a bid to boost the economy and hopefully help get the retail industry back on its feet after more than a year of closures and uncertainty amid the pandemic.

Burton’s three shopping centres have said they plan to keep to their normal opening and closing hours and that they had not been approached by any of their shops to open earlier or close later.

In some instances, some chains have revealed extended opening times from April 12.

This includes Primark, but its Coopers Square shopping centre store will continue with its usual hours, from 8.30am to 5.30pm.

The shopping centre itself will open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, and from 10am to 4.30pm on Sundays.

The centre manager Dave Chadfield said: “No one has approached us to open earlier or close later.

“The rules are the same as the last two times we opened after lockdowns such as social distancing.

“Hopefully we can get back to as normal as we can.”

The Octagon shopping centre’s opening hours will be 8am to 5.30pm. TK Maxx will be opening 8am to 8pm initially.

All other stores should be open normally (until 5pm or 5.30pm), but bosses urge customers to check exact opening hours with specific stores.

Richard Chamberlain, centre manager, said: “We are very much looking forward to the reopening of non-essential stores. As restrictions ease further and the pandemic situation improves we hope to be holding various events to encourage shoppers back into town.

“We are also particularly pleased to be able to welcome new tenants Midco Toymaster to the centre.”

Burton Place shopping centre will open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

One of the town’s other main retailers, Next, in Coopers Square, will open as normal from 9.30am to 6pm, while its neighbour H&M will open from 9.30am to 5.30pm.
