Millers turn up the heat with a win over QPR

-

ROTHERHAM United’s victory over Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday increased the pressure on Derby County and the other teams just above the Championship relegation places.

The Millers came from one down to beat Rangers 3-1, with Freddie Ladapo scoring twice.

Rotherham are third from bottom on 39 points from 38 games – three points behind Coventry City (42 points from 40 games), four behind Derby (43 points from 41 games) and five away from Huddersfield Town (44 points from 41 games).

Next up for Rotherham is a home game against Coventry tonight.

Millers boss Paul Warne said the victory over Rangers had given the club a huge lift.

“It’s been a good night. For us to win it gives us a real impetus going into Thursday,” he said.

“To win that game with three more home games to come is a good start and it gives us a good chance of survival. I think impetus and psychology is a massive thing. It gives the lads a right boost.”

Wycombe Wanderers are bottom on 33 points with five games remaining, while Sheffield Wednesday are second from bottom on 35, also with five games left.

The Owls lost 2-0 at home to Swansea City on Tuesday and are seven points from safety.

“It’s a game we’ll look back on and think it was small margins but those small margins are so important,” said Wednesday boss Darren Moore.

“To a man I’ve got no complaints with the players.

“They show commitment, they show endeavour, they show workrate, they show a togetherness.

“We move on to Saturday now. We go again. The numbers are still there, three points are still there for us on Saturday and we can’t focus any further than that. While the numbers are still there, we’ll keep fighting.”

Huddersfield lost 2-1 at home to Bournemouth.

“In that first half we conceded the two goals which really could have been avoided, I thought, and that’s a little disappointing. The reaction of the whole team was good in the second half, though,” said Huddersfield boss Carlos Corberan.
