Coffee pods recycling scheme is launched in S. Derbyshire

-

COFFEE experts - including Nestlé in Hatton - have joined forces to maker sure coffee pods are recyclable.

Households in South Derbyshire can sign up to recycle their coffee pods alongside their household recycling thanks to a new recycling initiative, Podback, set up by coffee industry leaders Nestlé and Jacobs Douwe Egberts UK.

More than 100,000 residents in South Derbyshire will be able to leave their used Nespresso, Nescafe Dolce Gusto, Tassimo, L’or and Starbucks at Home coffee pods in recycling bags outside ready to be collected alongside their regular household waste and recycling from May 10.

People can check whether their household is eligible and order recycling bags via the Podback website. Cheltenham is the other area where the kerbside service is live, with Chichester also coming on board over the next two months.

Allison Thomas, strategic director – service delivery at South Derbyshire District Council, said: “We’re pleased to be one of the first councils to have signed up to Podback and be part of a solution that enables residents in South Derbyshire, for the very first time, to recycle their coffee pods alongside their usual household waste. Recycling is an important way to have a positive environmental impact, and we hope that Podback will make this even easier for our residents.

“We will be contacting households to highlight exactly how they can take part in this service.” While South Derbyshire is one of the first local authorities to offer this service, coffee pod drinkers across the UK can also now recycle their aluminium and plastic coffee pods through Collect+ delivered by Yodel.
