Ticknall hold on to start with win

-

TICKNALL’S 200-6 was just enough to see off Denby on the opening weekend of the new Derbyshire County League Premier Division season.

Paul Borrington (93) was straight into his stride and received good support from Alex Hughes (26) and Greg Cork (29) as Ticknall looked to set a testing target.

But Ben Scott (2-52) and Jack Richardson (2-42) put in economical spells and it was anybody’s match at the break.

But Peter Burgoyne (84) took up the challenge alongside Mark Payne (27), adding 71 for the fourth wicket, to put Denby back in the chase.

Wood and Sam Trotman (3-35) did just enough to seal the points for Ticknall as Denby closed agonisingly short on 198-6.

Skipper James Burton finished 100 not out as Alrewas romped home by nine wickets inside 33 overs away to Lullington Park in Division One.
