HOTEL AND WEDDING VENUE IN VILLAGE HAS BEEN ON THE MARKET FOR SIX MONTHS

A POPULAR hotel and wedding venue is still yet to be sold six months after it was revealed it was on the market.

In October, the Burton Mail revealed that the Mercure Newton Park Hotel in Newton Solney was on the market for around £2.2 million as owner and operator Jupiter Hotels focused “on other business interests”.

It came just months after the venue had undergone a £150,000 refurbishment.

The property remains on sale at the original price and is set to reopen on May 17 as part of the Government’s coronavirus roadmap.

A spokesperson on behalf of Mercure Burton upon Trent Newton Park Hotel said: “We can confirm that the Mercure Burton upon Trent Newton Park Hotel is currently for sale. However, this does not affect our plans to reopen in line with national guidance on May 17, and all weddings booked to take place with us are expected to go ahead.”

It is understood the hotel could be used for residential, care or senior living accommodation should any new owners wish to change the use of the business.

The four-star hotel was acquired by Jupiter in 2015 and in November 2019 the firm announced it had undergone a transformation, with 21 of the 50 bedrooms revamped.

The bridal suite was “redesigned and upgraded” as part of the revamp.

Newton Park Hotel was one of three Jupiter Hotels put up for sale.

The Mercure Bewdley the Heath hotel, in Kidderminster, was up for £2.8 million and is understood to be in the process of being sold. The Mercure Bradford Bankfield hotel is on the market for £5.1 million.

A report by Colliers International, which is marketing Newton Park on behalf of Jupiter, previously said the hotel was an “established business with diverse revenue streams from a range of demand drivers”.

Newton Park Hotel is set in around eight acres of grounds and is one of the area’s most highly regarded wedding and events and tourist venues.

The report added: “Acquired by our client in 2015, the freehold interest in the property and business is offered for sale to their focus on other business interests.

“This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the area’s leading tourist, function and event hotels.”

It added that the hotel was expected to bounce back strongly following the pandemic, which led to its closure last year. In the year ending December 2019, it had a net turnover of £1,416,160.

The hotels are being marketed by Colliers International on behalf of Jupiter Hotels, owner and operator of the properties, and the company’s joint shareholders, FICO Holding UK and S Hotels and Resorts.
