Second-half show fires Newhall to win against Willington

-

SECOND-HALF goals from Brandon Edwards, Jordan Lees and Aaron Whetton fired Newhall United to a 3-0 win against Willington in Group A of the G&T Jenkins Midlands Regional Alliance Division One Cup, writes Dan Bishop.

It was the only game to go ahead in the group after Acorn Albion failed to raise a side to play Burton United, enabling the latter to stay top.

There was plenty of entertainment at St Peters Park, where Little Eaton Reserves beat Wirksworth Ivanhoe Reserves 6-4 but the other game in Group B was eventful for the wrong reasons after a head injury meant USDU Derby’s game against Bargate Rovers was abandoned on the hour mark.

With no fixture for Division Two Cup Group A front-runners Melbourne Dynamo Development it was a chance for the chasing pack to close the gap.

Punjab United are now second after Charlie Cotton, Ryan Chahal and Jack Cook steered them to a 3-1 win away against Willington Reserves, Chris Stokes replying for the beaten side, while Stenson won by the same scoreline away against Castle Donington Reserves.

Joe Airey hit a hat-trick for Rollsroyce Leisure as they beat Little Eaton 3-1 to pick up their first points in the Premier Division Cup Group A.

The Jet Set are now level on points with Derby Singh Brothers, who lost 3-2 to group leaders Allenton United.

A Danny Jones thunderbolt eventually settled the game in Allenton’s favour, despite the visitors twice drawing level.

Moira United are unbeaten in second place after a 2-2 draw with Castle Donington.

Jordan Turek (2) and Reagan Oakley fired Shirebrook Rangers to the top of Group B as they celebrated a 3-2 home win against Ashbourne Reserves.
