■■A DRIVER who failed to stop after he injured a motorist in a road accident has appeared in court. Waqar Asghar, 35, appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrate­s’ Court, where he admitted driving a blue Toyota without due care and attention in Uttoxeter Road, Hatton, on July

13. He also admitted failing to stop after an accident in which a person was injured on the same day.

Asghar, 35, of Lawnswood Close, Derby, has been given a 29-month community order and must complete 80 hours’ unpaid work. He has also been ordered to pay £110 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge. He has been banned from driving for six months.

■■Adam Greig, 30, of Wilmot Road, Swadlincot­e, admitted stealing a bicycle worth £350 in Bernard Street, in the town, on April 4. He has been fined £120, ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

■■Alec Sides, 33, of Park Road, Overseal, admitted possession of Class B amphetamin­e in Matlock and Swadlincot­e on October 7, 2019. He also admitted two charges of possession of cannabis in Swadlincot­e on October 7, 2019. He has been given a 18-month community order. He has also been ordered to pay £620 court costs and a £85 victim surcharge. He has been ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid work.

■■Mark Helegeson, 42, of Northfield Drive, Coalville, was convicted of failing to give the identity of the driver alleged to have been guilty of an offence in Coalville on July 1. He was also convicted of using a car in Oxford Street and Church Street, Swadlincot­e, on May 21 without insurance and otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

He has been fined £660, ordered to pay £620 court costs and a £66 victim surcharge. His licence has been endorsed with six points.
