Horror as tree falls on man in gardens
PATIENT AIRLIFTED TO HOSPITAL AFTER INCIDENT AT BEAUTY SPOT
A MAN has been seriously injured after a tree fell on him at a Burton beauty spot.
A witness dialled 999 just before 1pm yesterday, with the man trapped under the tree at Stapenhill Gardens in Stapenhill Road.
Medics arrived to find fire crews already trying to get a “large branch” off the man.
Once it was removed, they gave him advanced trauma care, before he was airlifted to Royal Stoke Hospital by the Midlands Air Ambulance.
Police have confirmed they are now investigating how the tree fell.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “An ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Taten hill with two critical care paramedics on board attended the scene.
“Crews arrived to find fire colleagues working to release the man from beneath a large tree branch which had fallen onto him. Ambulance staff worked quickly to assess the man, who had sustained serious injuries in the incident and received advanced trauma care on scene.
“Once his condition was stabilised, the man was airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further emergency care.”
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to Stapenhill Gardens, Burton, shortly after 1pm this afternoon to reports a man had been struck by a tree.
“He was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Enquiries into the circumstances around the incident are under way.”
A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “A crew from Burton was called to Stapenhill Gardens, Burton, shortly before 1pm this afternoon to reports a man been struck by a tree.
“Firefighters helped remove the tree before the man was airlifted to hospital.”
East Staffordshire Borough Council, which owns the visitor attraction, has been contacted for comment and information about how the tree fell.
