Cliffhanger stage set for Cruise...and maybe even co-star Hayley, too

-

LOCALS near a Derbyshire quarry are exciteed at reports that Tom Cruise will be visiting their neck of the woods.

Filming for Mission: Impossible 7 is bringing crews and Cruise to Dartlon Quarry in Stoney Middleton. Shooting is take place between now and June – and appears to be for one of the film’s major set-pieces involving a train, as a section of railway hanging over the edge of a ‘cliff’ has been build.

Tom may not be the only big name on set, as co-star Hayley Atwell could also attend.

Atwell, 39, best known for her portrayal of Peggy Carter in Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been cast in the seventh and eighth Mission Impossible films. And reports at the end of last year hinted that the leading stars might be romantically involved after filming brought them closer together.

During shooting last week in the North Yorkshire Moors, they were pictured walking around a private railway where a stunt scene was been shot.

The owner of Castlegate Farm Shop, which has recently closed, said: “It’s brought a lot of attention to the area, there’s been a lot of people walking around.” Imtiaz Ahmed, owner of the Curry Cottage in Stoney Middleton, added: “Everyone who comes in mentions it.”

Pete Grafton, owner of Toll Bar Fish and Chips, said: “It has brought a smile to people’s faces. It is good for business and for morale.”

Locals can expect some disruptions while rehearsals and filming take place.

Planning documents say: “During the two-day filming, there will be one exceptionally noisy episode – the sound of a train coming off the quarry face – which should last no more than five minutes.

“There will also be some controlled explosions, which will be infrequent and of short duration. During the three-week rehearsal phase, the train will be running on the track and this will be noisy. All these activities will be carried out during the day.”

However, as a gesture of goodwill the production company, Applicant Jupiter Springs Production Ltd, will make a donation to local parish or community groups.
