STAFF at a home furnishings store in Burton are urging customers to support them by donating essentials to needy people in the town.

The Dunelm store in Lichfield Street is running a Delivering Kindness campaign.

Staff have asked customers to either donate or buy essentials, such as non-perishable food items, blankets and throws, to distribute to struggling families.

People can also post cards of kindness to those needing a pick-me-up.

Staff have set up a Facebook group, which has more than 3,000 members, helping to raise awareness.

There are shopping trolleys located near the entrance of the store where people can drop off items. Kim Sadler, community champion at the store, said: “Now we can welcome our customers back in store we are asking them to get involved and support us with this great cause.

“Prior to this we have all rallied around as a team and donated whatever we could, and we are hopeful, now customers are allowed back in, we will fill the trolleys very quickly and distribute the goods to the needy. As a store we want to go that bit further in supporting our community and work with those who have very little. Previous campaigns have worked really well, both staff and customers have really got behind us and we are hoping for more of the same.

“We have had a wonderful response from our Facebook group and the following of the group is increasing almost on a daily basis, which is very positive. “Sometimes in life it’s the little things that count for a lot.

“The pandemic has definitely taught us that there are plenty of people out there who need our support and all we want to do is look out for as many as possible and help them in whichever way we can.”

The pandemic has taught us there are plenty of people out there who need our support. Kim Sadler
