School to take Year 7s for the first time

-

ASHBY School is to welcome Year 7 pupils for the first time in its 450-year history, it has been revealed.

The pupils aged 11 to 12 will soon be able to join Ashby School straight from primary school for the first time.

The arrival of Year 7s will mark a new chapter in the long history of Ashby School, which has been educating local youngsters since 1567 in North West Leicestershire.

As part of its “age range change” programme, Ashby School will start accepting applications this October for its first ever Year 7 intake. The pupils, who are currently in Year 5, will take up their places in August 2022.

It comes just months after the school joined the LIFE Multi Academy Trust along with Ivanhoe College and Ibstock Community College.

Ivanhoe College and Ibstock Community College will both become 11 to 16 schools, while Ashby School will become an 11 to 18 school.

Currently, Ashby School accepts Year 9s upwards.

Ali Jackson, director of curriculum teaching and learning, said: “At Ashby School, we believe it’s a privilege to be chosen to educate your child. We’re excited that students will be able to begin their Ashby School journey in Year 7 for the first time – and to embrace the Ashby School ethos that anything is possible.

“We’ve already undertaken intensive work around Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9) curriculum design. The majority of our staff have KS3 experience and we will continue to focus on the learning and teaching of younger students over the next year. This will ensure our Year 7 students benefit from the same high quality learning experience that all Ashby School students have come to expect.”
