Fairies can be found hiding in the woodland

-

IF you go down to the woods today you might just find a hidden village of fairies.

In the woodland at Heart of the Country Village, two miles out of Lichfield, you will find the Green Fairy Trail – a free family adventure with an eco-friendly ethos.

The fairies’ doors and homes are made from recycled materials which have been discarded locally, and so are helping to teach youngsters about the importance of recycling, said a spokesman for the venue.

Having been in lockdown themselves, the magical residents are over the moon to be welcoming visitors back again as Government covid restrictions eased so theme parks and attractions can reopen.

Everything at Green Fairy Woods is donated, salvaged or recycled, and the creators hope it will help people think about ways to fight global warming.

Dogs on leads are also welcome to visit the trail, which takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete, and is free of charge.

It is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, and offers a picnic area, mud kitchen and wishing tree, where the pennies are donated to charity. Social distancing needs to be observed.

There are also three friendly rescue pigs on the site who love carrots, lettuce and banana skins.

Car parking at the Heart of the Country shopping village is also free, with access to toilets, shops and restaurants. Tripadvisor reviewer ‘LB’ visited in summer last year and commented: “We have been here three times now and my daughter loves it. Being outside roaming free whilst spotting fairy doors and habitats keeps her entertained.

“Each time we have managed to spend at least two hours here enjoying a picnic and chatting to the friendly pigs that hide in the woods.

“Each time my daughter has visited in fancy dress and it’s so lovely to meet other children dressed up as fairies, superheroes and more. Well worth a trip out if you are local.”

Liz W added: “A lovely free open space to explore, perfect for children (and adults) to enjoy and embrace the woodlands and little quirks it has to offer.

“You can spend as little or as long as you like here. If the weather is nice, pack a picnic and get lost amongst the fairies. “
