Owls task is giving Warne fresh hope

-

ROTHERHAM United boss Paul Warne says the fact Sheffield Wednesday have to take the game to Derby County gives him hope ahead of ‘Survival Saturday’.

With Wycombe Wanderers all but down, it is realistically between the Rams, the Millers and the Owls for the remaining two relegation spots in the Championship.

Fourth-from-bottom Derby hold the advantage, knowing a home win against the Owls tomorrow will definitely keep them in the second tier.

But a draw at Pride Park, coupled with a win for Rotherham away against Cardiff City, would send the Rams and Wednesday down.

A Rams defeat would send them down, with the Owls then needing the Millers to pick up no more than a point in south Wales for the Sheffield club to survive.

“It gives us a little bit more hope that they [Wednesday] have to take the game to the Derby and have to win the game to stay up,” said Warne.

“If they do win the game and we win our game, then obviously we are in the much nicer position.”

Warne says his side can only focus on their job and not worry about matters at Pride Park.

“It goes to the last Saturday in the season. Our team are in it and, hopefully, we can win our game. We can’t control the uncontrollable,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter what happens elsewhere on Saturday. We have to work out a way to beat Cardiff. If we do that and fall short I don’t know how I can criticise the lads.

“We are not in control of our destiny but if we perform to our absolute best and have a little bit of lady luck then you just don’t know.”
