Play-offs out of reach for Pompey

-

PORTSMOUTH lost their grip on the last League One play-off place when they were beaten 1-0 at home by Accrington Stanley.

Adam Phillips scored after 23 minutes and Pompey could not find a way back.

Charlton Athletic had also gone into the last day with hopes of sneaking into the play-offs but a 1-0 win at home to champions Hull City, thanks to a Jacob Greaves own goal, was not enough for them, as they finished seven goals behind Oxford United on goal difference.

The U’s goal difference in two wins against Burton Albion amounted to eight.

With Oxford in the play-offs are Blackpool, Sunderland and Lincoln City.

Blackpool ended their regular season campaign with a 1-0 home win over bottom side Bristol Rovers, with Ellis Simms on target.

Sunderland drew 1-1 at home to relegated Northampton Town. The Cobblers took an 84th-minute lead through Sam Hoskins, cancelled out three minutes later by Carl Winchester.

Lincoln’s last game of the regular season ended goalless at home to AFC Wimbledon.

The Brewers retained 16th place in the division ahead of Shrewsbury Town, who lost 3-2 away to Crewe Alexandra.

It was 2-2 at half-time and former Derby County striker Chris Porter hit a late winner for Crewe.

Promoted Peterborough United finished in style with a 4-1 win away to Doncaster Rovers, the goals all coming in the first half from Mo Eisa, Niall Mason, Idris Kanu and Rickyjade Jones.

There were last-day wins for relegated Rochdale, 3-0 away to MK Dons, and Swindon Town, 4-3 away to Wigan Athletic after they had trailed 3-1 until the 77th minute. Ipswich Town ended with a 3-1 win at home to Fleetwood Town after going three up inside half an hour.

Vadaine Oliver’s first-half goal gave Gillingham a 1-0 win at home to Plymouth Argyle.
