Allison Thomas, strategic director – service delivery at South Derbyshire District Council, said: “We’re pleased to be one of the first councils to have signed up to Podback and be part of a solution that enables residents in South Derbyshire, for the very first time, to recycle their coffee pods alongside their usual household waste. “Recycling is an important way to have a positive environmental impact, and we hope that Podback will make this even easier for our residents. We will be contacting households from 19 April to highlight exactly how they can get take part in this service.”

Heather Wheeler, MP for South Derbyshire, said: “Boosting recycling rates is an essential part of reducing our environmental impact and contributing to a circular economy. We are proud to have the Nestle factory at Hatton so South Derbyshire taking the lead in recycling is complete fitting.

“That’s why I’m delighted that residents across South Derbyshire can now have their coffee pods collected from the doorstep, alongside their regular household waste and recycling. Podback is setting a fine example with this scheme, and I would encourage all of my constituents to get involved.”

While South Derbyshire is one of the first local authorities to offer this service, coffee pod drinkers across the UK can also now recycle their aluminium and plastic coffee pods through Collect+ delivered by Yodel. Residents can take their used coffee pods to their nearest drop-off point: there are thousands in local stores across the UK, open seven days a week.

Recycling bags can be ordered directly from any of the participating Podback brands online and bags will also be available in supermarkets soon.

Residents will be contacted with further information on the scheme and can also visit www.podback.org.
