Eatery to stay shut as all the staff quit
BLOW AS BORIS GIVES GREEN LIGHT TO INDOOR DINING:
THE boss of an East Staffordshire curry house has revealed he will not be reopening when lockdown restrictions are eased next week because all his staff have left.
Most restaurants are celebrating the fact they will be able to welcome guests back into their establishments from Monday - but that is not the case for Munawar Hussain.
The owner of The Marigold, in Burton Street, Tutbury, has been left with no staff and will not be reopening any time soon. Unlike other restaurants that provided takeaway collection and delivery services, Mr Hussain remained closed. That meant he could not offer staff any work and they decided to move on.
But with indoor hospitality allowed from May 17, Mr Hussain is now looking for a new team - including chefs, waiters and pot washers but has been unsuccessful so far.
The 40-year-old, who lives in Birmingham, said: “I’m in no position to open any time soon as I have literally no staff members.
“Due to staying closed I was unable to offer my staff job security and they decided to move on. I’ve been searching to find suitable replacements, but it’s been very tricky.
“In terms of timing, it’s very unfortunate and I’m hoping to get a team in very quickly, especially now I’m allowed to bring customers back into the restaurant.
“I’ve received some job applications from candidates, but most of them live away from either Birmingham or Burton and want me to offer accommodation, which is something I can’t do. Ideally, I want to recruit locally as it means the staff members will have no issues with coming into work and then going home. If anyone knows of anyone who has industry experience or is looking for work themselves and have worked in the restaurant trade before, then do get in touch.
“I’m working as well as I can to get myself out of this position. It’s been a very tough year and a bit for restaurant owners like me and I want to open up as soon as possible.”
