Finance chief takes up role at recycling firm enjoying boom
A BURTON-BASED family-run waste and recycling firm has appointed a new finance director.
John D’aubney takes up his new role at Willshee’s as it enjoys double digit year-on-year growth as demand for commercial and domestic waste and recycling services continue to increase.
Mr D’aubney joins the company from Staffordshire-based Leavesley Group where he was group finance director. Earlier in his career, he also worked in a number of finance and system development roles including Lloyds TSB Head Office, and prior to that KMPG audit and compliance.
He has a degree in accounting and finance from the University of Birmingham and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Dean Willshee, managing director of Willshee’s, said: “John has tremendous pedigree and a strong, impressive track record so we are very pleased that he has joined our leadership team, bringing skills and experience that will help us to grow and fulfil our ambitions.”
Mr D’aubney said: “I am delighted to have joined Willshee’s at such an exciting time.
“Adoption of strict environmental standards, and the accountability, traceability and corporate social responsibility for waste management are all increasingly being demanded as part of best practice in industry, the public sector and SMES, and are a compulsory part of listed reporting requirements.
“Alongside rapidly increasing domestic demand, the facilities, quality, experience and the management team that Willshee’s has in place will enable the huge potential here to be realised.
“My particular focus will be leading the team in first-class financial processes, controls and reporting to support the business as we look to achieve some very ambitious targets over the next five years.”
Willshee’s is the leading independent waste and recycling management company in the Midlands and has been providing waste and recycling solutions for more than 37 years. It recently invested £10million in opening its third depot, a materials recycling facility in Swadlincote.
Bosses say the facility, in Keith Willshee Way, is the most advanced recycling plant in the region. Dean Willshee said earlier this year: “Opening this new site is a huge step forward for our company in terms of technology, efficiency, and also the environment.
“This state-of-the-art equipment produces over a third more material that can be reused, versus other plant – extracting wood, soil, plastic, metal and rubble from general waste.
“With a process involving three stages of shredding and a sophisticated system of shredding, screening, air separation, magnets, and near-infrared technology, we are able to extract every last piece of recyclable material.
“What is left, is made into solid recovered fuel (SRF) which is then used by manufacturers – cement works will use SRF in their kilns, for example.”
My particular focus will be leading the team in first-class financial processes.
