Burton DJ’S big Brits night
BURTON DJ Nathan Dawe was pictured with girl group Little Mix at the Brit Awards as it became the first major indoor music event to return with the easing of lockdown rules.
Dawe, 26, had been nominated for the first time in the Best British Single category for his second single, Lighter, featuring KSI.
However, he lost out to former One Direction star Harry Styles’ hit single Watermelon Sugar.
He did, however, manage to mingle with Little Mix, who were named Best Band during the night.
The former Robert Sutton Catholic Academy pupil’s remix of the band’s No Time for Tears single peaked at number 19 on the UK singles chart last year.
He has a huge fan base in Birmingham and the Midlands, which has seen him sell out headlining shows at Birmingham’s 3,000-capacity 02 Academy.
His single, Flowers, featuring Birmingham rapper Jaykae – a fresh twist on the UK Garage classic – spent 11 weeks in the UK Top 20, peaking at number 12. It was recently certified platinum.
He soon followed this release up with Lighter. It has since gone on to amass more than 136 million global streams to establish itself as one of THE dance records of 2020, going platinum in the process.
He appeared on the Brits red carpet at the 02 Arena in East London on Tuesday night. The Brits welcomed 4,000 fans with no masks or social distancing, with more than half the audience London key workers selected by ballot.
Acts including Coldplay and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man performed on the night.
The event was part of the Government’s scientific Events Research Programme. Fans needed proof of a negative lateral flow Covid test result to get in and had to provide contact details for NHS Test and Trace.
They were tested afterwards to gather “further evidence” on the safety of such an event.
