‘Fuming’ driver tooted horn at scene of crash as police supported two children
AN ANGRY driver started sounding his horn at the scene of a three-car crash because the road had been coned off.
The driver began to remonstrate and repeatedly “pip” his horn after Derby Road, in Hatton, had to be closed off for safety reasons because of an accident.
While officers from the Mercia police safer neighbourhood team were supporting two children who had been passengers in one of the cars, the driver came across the scene of the accident and became angry that he could not get past.
Derbyshire Police were called at around 5.40pm on Tuesday, May 11, to reports of the accident in Derby Road, near to the junction with Sutton Lane.
Ambulance crews were called to check on two children who had been passengers in one of the vehicles and no serious injuries were reported, but three people were taken to hospital.
The road was closed while emergency crews dealt with the scene.
A spokesman for the safer neighbourhood team said: “An ambulance had been called to provide medical assistance to two very young children at the scene.
“While officers were providing reassurance and support to the children, they observed another driver approaching an area of the roadway that had been coned off for safety reasons.
“Fuming that his pathway had been halted by the road traffic accident, the driver began to remonstrate with the officers and repeatedly pip and sound his horn in the manner of an irate bagpipe player.
“This caused alarm to the injured parties at the scene of the accident.
“An investigation is under way to find the driver and action will be taken as soon as they are identified.
“Remember, always be aware of road conditions and follow the instructions of officers at the scene of an accident.
A spokesman for East Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that three people were taken to the Royal Derby Hospital as a result of the accident.
