Sister act launch the return of live music at village hall
LIVE music at a Staffordshire venue is finally back after many months of cancellations due to the pandemic.
And the series of performances at Alstonefield Village Hall is coming back with a swing, as organisers welcome the return of The Harley Sisters, who last played in the village four years ago.
The country music act will bring life back to the village hall’s audiences tonight from 8pm. Guests will see a handful of measures to ensure the venue is safe.
Organiser Martin Snodin said: “Audiences seem keen to return but we are still applying some restrictions, such as increased ventilation, and we’re limiting capacity to 75% of normal levels. “Musicians have had a difficult time and they are just glad to be out performing again.”
The Harley Sisters, Jo-ann and Becky, were joined in 1993 by guitarist Brian Smith, who worked in Nashville for artists such as Crystal Gayle. Since then, the group have received many accolades from the likes of Maverick Magazine and in 1996 won the Best UK Group/duo award in the Great British Country Music Awards.
The following year, they formed their own record label, Comet Records, and have four albums under their belt. Their album The
Sweetest Gift received national airplay, including by Bob Harris and Aled Jones on BBC Radio 2. Martin added: “With their magical blend of vocal harmonies, dazzling flatpicking and slide guitar, coupled with warm, funny stage banter that has delighted audiences for over two decades, the group have performed at clubs, theatres, festivals and events across the UK, Ireland and Europe.
“They are natural entertainers and their repertoire includes traditional country, pop hits and new-style alt-country. If you are a fan of The Dixie Chicks, Eva Cassidy, Emmylou Harris etc, then this is a show not to be missed.”
