RSPCA ALERTED AFTER SHEEP REMAINS FOUND WRAPPED IN BIN BAGS

THE carcass of a mutilated sheep has been found bizarrely dumped in a charity bin in Burton.

The remains of the sheep were found wrapped in bin bags in a horrifying discovery made in the car park of the Tesco store on St Peter’s Bridge.

Officers from the RSPCA were alerted after people emptying the Salvation Army donation bin found the remains of an animal wrapped in bin bags.

They initially thought it was a dog.

The discovery has now been labelled as “shocking and bizarre” by the RSPCA.

RSPCA inspector Rachel Leafe attended the scene and found the mutilated body inside the bag - with the insides of the butchered farm animal clearly visible, she said.

A spokesman for the charity said it is unknown why someone chose to dump the sheep’s body into the donation bin - but the collection box is located in the corner of a car park and could be considered hidden from view.

An appeal for information has now been launched in the hope anybody with information about who dumped the sheep will come forward.

It was discovered on Friday, August 13. Inspector Leafe said: “This was a shocking and bizarre discovery - and clearly something untoward has happened here.

“The poor sheep’s body was found butchered and severely mutilated. The smell was absolutely horrendous. Perhaps someone had got the meat they wanted from the sheep and then wanted to get rid of the body.

“It beggars belief anyone thought it acceptable to dump an animal’s body in a charity bin like this. Sadly, it acts as a reminder how little regard some people have for animals - and charitable donations.

“We are unclear why anyone would do this - though the charity bin is in a quiet corner of a Tesco car park, and could be considered hidden from view.

“Anyone with information about this incident can contact our inspectorate appeal line on

0300 123 8018.”
