THE fifth of eight dogs stolen from kennels near Swadlincote has been found more than 130 miles away.

Jess was one of eight dachshunds taken from kennels in Burton Road, Swadlincote, six months ago.

It emerged less than two weeks ago Rummy had become the fourth to be found - and now little Jess is on her way back to her delighted owners.

Jess was found dumped in Basingstoke, near where another of the stolen pups, Rikki, was found back in May.

Pet detective Lisa Dean, who has been working to help find the dogs, said the dogs were clearly becoming “too hot to handle”.

She wrote on Facebook: “Jess was dumped near Basingstoke in Hampshire, very close to where Rikki was recovered.

“Can we please urge people to keep pushing as it proves they are getting too hot to handle. She is safe and photo to follow after she has been vet checked.

“A massive thank you to all of you for keeping the faith, to a fantastic team, our friends and colleagues in all the different agencies who work with us up and down the country ... and to all our friends in the media world for keeping these dogs in the public eye. To the members of the public who are constantly coming forward with information, and to all of our incredible owners who never give up on their missing animals.”

Lisa runs Beauty’s Legacy and it is her mission to track down lost and stolen pets.

Of the eight dacshunds, Rikki, Rummy, Jess, Percy and Muffin have been found. Percy and Muffin were found in Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire respectively.

Jess, Cookie, Nora and Doris remain missing.
