Five deaths in ten days

THE latest coronaviru­s infection figures from the Government show rates are back on the rise across the area.

In East Staffordsh­ire, there had been 49 people who tested positive in the 24-hour period before 4pm yesterday.

There have been 373 in the past seven days, which is 2.8 per cent more than the previous seven days.

There were no deaths from coronaviru­s within 28 days of a positive test. There have not been any deaths since August 11, and a total of 416 people have died during the pandemic.

In South Derbyshire, there were 58 new cases.

There have been 370 in the past seven days, which is 10.1 per cent more than the previous seven days.

One person has died from coronaviru­s in the latest 24-hour period.

A total of 234 people have died, and five have been in the ten days between August 13 and yesterday.

In North West Leicesters­hire, there were 62 new cases.

In the past seven days there have been 409 positive tests, which is 18.9 per cent more than the previous seven days. There were no new deaths. The last death from coronaviru­s was on August 19, and there have been a total of 225 deaths.

Across the UK, there were 31,914 new cases reported. The rolling seven-day average is up by 13.4 per cent.

There were 40 deaths recorded. The rolling seven-day average is up by 12.3 per cent.

A total of 47,690,741 have had their first Covid vaccine dose (87.7 per cent of the population), and 41,810,753 have had both doses (76.9 per cent).
