4 REASONS... TO EAT MORE FRUIT AND VEGETABLES

-

Eat a rainbow for health

1. Boost your memory: Studies have shown that people who eat a higher than average amount of fruit and vegetables have far sharper memories..

2. Reduce the risk of depression: Increasing your daily fruit and veg intake by 100g will lower your chances of depression due to the vitamins, minerals, fibre, and antioxidants.

3. Get better sleep: A study found that, compared to people who got seven to eight hours of sleep per night, those who slept fewer hours consumed 24g less fruit and veg.

4. Support your digestion: They’re an excellent source of dietary fibre, which can help maintain a healthy gut and reduce your risk of bowel cancer.

Relaxing in a hot tub might sound like bliss but for dogs it is a big no-no. One pup who found out the hard way was one-year-old Labrador Cooper.

After licking the foam off the top of the water, Cooper was left struggling to breathe. Owner Joanne Mcgovern now wants to warn others about the risks.

“It was a lovely Sunday and my partner had topped up the chemicals, put the jets on and popped into the house for a moment,” said Joanne. “I was in the living room and almost immediately Cooper came in like he was gasping for breath. I ran into the garden and when I saw water on the steps by the tub, I realised he’d got up and licked the foam with all the chemicals.

“It was so scary. We phoned Vets Now right away, and they said to get him to them quickly.”

Hot tubs can be dangerous to dogs, not only because of the chemicals but because of the risk of drowning.

Joanne added: “I would never have left my girls unattended by the hot tub and you’ve got to be every bit as cautious with dogs.”
