Historic house to host an evening with antiques star Charles

A TV auctioneer is set to hold a glamorous celebrity evening at Burton’s oldest house.

Charles Hanson, who has recently become patron of the Sinai Park House Trust, is to host An Evening with Charles Hanson at the Grade II* Sinai Park House next month.

The face of Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip, who became fascinated with history through objects from the past, will be talking about his career as an auctioneer, his “second career” on the small screen and his support for the restoration Sinai Park House as a centre of learning and wellbeing.

Sinai Park House, which is ranked in the top seven per cent of important heritage buildings in England, has recently been in national and international media because of its reputation as the possible burial site of the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail.

It has a holy water spring and plunge pool akin to Glastonbury and Bath.

Sinai Park House, known as Sinai House, off Shobnall Road, is steeped in history, dating all the way back to its humble beginnings in the 15th century as a respite home for monks. Bloodletting – bleeding people in a bid to cure illness – was also popular among the monks and took place regularly in the attic.

It was home to the famous Paget family for 400 years, but was later allowed to fall into disrepair and the remaining central and south wings have all but collapsed.

Its current owner has embarked on a massive restoration pledge to restore it to its former glory.

Charles Hanson is now the latest person to become involved with the restoration and all proceeds from the celebrity evening will go towards Sinai House.

The event takes place from 7pm until 9pm on September 7, in the dining hall at Sinai Park House and the ticket price will include canapés and a complementary glass of prosecco.

The auctioneer has also offered to talk about any historical or sentimental objects brought along by guests.

The evening will include a raffle of “experience” prizes.

Tickets for the event are priced at £35 and can be purchased on the Sinai Park House website www.sinaiparkhouse.co.uk via Eventbrite.

Sinai Park House fund-raiser Laura Wigg-bailey said: “The trust was delighted to welcome Charles Hanson as its patron earlier this year and this event has been planned to celebrate that and to welcome

guests to a really special evening. Ticket numbers are strictly limited so this will be on a first come first served basis – and we know it will be a popular occasion.”

Sinai Park House Trust is the charity coordinating plans to save and restore wider access to Sinai Park House. To become a Friend of Sinai Park House, email laura@sinai parkhouse.co.uk
