Champs golds for Isabelle and Katie

BURTON Atheltic Club’s youngsters won two gold medals and four bronze medals at the Midlands Under-15 and Under-17 Championsh­ips at the popular Nuneaton track.

Isabelle Fellows took the first gold in the under-15 javelin with a throw of 30.50m, an event in which Holly Wilson took fifth with 18.17m.

Katie Brant easily won her 75m hurdles heat in 11.3 seconds, then led from the gun to win the final in 11.36, continuing her excellent season.

Martha Wong had to choose between the high jump and 800m due to a clash of start times and won a bronze medal when she chose the track, coming third in a personal best 2.26.47.

The under-15 1500m saw Saffron Bowley close to her best to win a bronze in 5.08.24, a race in which club-mate Caitlin Mccarney was fifth in 5.15.34.

Katie Scott was another bronze winner with 9.66m in the under-17 triple jump.

The fourth bronze of the day went to Reese Robinson in the only event for the under-13s, a quadrathon.

Robinson came fifth in the long jump with 3.27m, third in the 100m in 14.69m, second in the howler – a soft, missile-like implement that is thrown – with 32.52m and fourth in the 600m in 1.58, all PBS, to finish third overall.

Freddie Kuglemann just missed out as he came fourth in the under17 400m in 54.01 but that was a PB, while his brother George was sixth in the javelin in his first attempt at the event. The following day, Freddie was fifth in his heat in the 200m and George fifth in the discus.

Kaiden Ramsey lowered his PB twice in the under-17 100m, coming third in his heat in 12.17 and fourth in the final in 12.13.

Isla Swindlehur­st was seventh in the under-15 200m and fifth in the semi-final of the 100m.

Alice Tyler in the u17 race took 7th in her heat in 28.6.
