URBAN EXPLORER UNCOVERS GRAFFITI IN EERIE HIDDEN SITE

AN URBAN explorer has uncovered a hoard of incredible pop-art-style graffiti at a disused army barracks in Staffordshire.

Beardedreality – real name Dan Sims – is a full-time urban explorer and dedicates his life to seeing what lies inside mothballed buildings and ruins across the UK.

The 32-year-old recently travelled from his native Huddersfield to the East Staffordshire village of Marchington to look round its former barracks off the B5017, believed to have opened in the late 1950s and closed in the early 90s.

And Dan was absolutely blown away by what he found – including gorgeous graffiti artwork painted on some of the interior walls.

He said: “The place was clearly wide open and walking round really gives you a scale of how massive the site is.

“Entering the buildings you can see that there are some amazing pieces of art covering the walls which adds to the area and sense of decay.

“I love this kind of art you can see how much time and effort goes into it. It always amazes me seeing how creative people are.

“It is always interesting trying to discover a place’s past and why it is left how it is and when I film it captures this place in a moment in time before it is gone forever.”

Beardedreality’s video tour of the barracks is available at www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v63zhk-fuu Warning: the video includes some obscene graffiti.

Police have previously released safety and legal warnings against urban explorers entering condemned buildings.
