Business minister visits brewery as it recovers from Covid
A BUSINESS minister paid a visit to a Burton brewery to see how the beer and pub sector is recovering from the pandemic
Business Minister Paul Scully MP visited Molson Coors Brewery in Burton on Thursday and also got to see significant investment being made into the site and hear about its latest business developments.
The Minister was hosted by Molson Coors Beverage Company managing director for Western Europe, Phil Whitehead, and Burton brewery operations director, John Cole, for a tour of the site and to hear about the latest business developments at the brewery.
He heard a briefing on the recently announced £25 million investment into a new hard seltzer canning line, as well as the steps taken by the business to reduce carbon emissions and upgrades to its beer and cider packaging facilities to drive efficiencies.
In April, Molson Coors became the first major brewer to make all of its products in the UK from 100 per cent renewable electricity. The business also achieved its target of removing all single-use plastic from the packaging of major brands and has removed more than 700 tonnes of single-use plastic from UK operations since 2019. Mr Scully said: “The Government’s Hospitality Strategy is supporting the sector to build back better and greener from the pandemic and Molson Coors is leading by example, including through multimillion-pound investments in Burton and sustainability initiatives such as removing single-use plastics. It’s a great example of a British business seizing the clean, green opportunities ahead.” Mr Whitehead said: “It was fantastic to be able to show the Business Minister the investments we’ve made at our Burton brewery and discuss how we’re working to overcome the challenges our sector has faced throughout the pandemic.
“This is a pivotal time for the beer and hospitality sector and with the Budget approaching we’ll continue to make the case for how, with the right support from government, our sector can be an engine for growth in Burton and every area of the UK.”
