A CHILDREN’S charity with shops selling new discounted clothing in Burton and Cannock is set to expand – creating 60 new jobs in the process.

Newlife, which has stores in Coopers Square shopping centre, in Burton, and Hemlock Way, Cannock, says it is bouncing back from the impact of the pandemic, when it had to temporarily close all of its shops.

Bosses at the charity group, which raises money through its shops to care for disabled and terminally ill children, have said they are redoubling their mission to help even more youngsters and their families across the UK.

The shops do not sell used clothing but take unwanted clothing donated by high street fashion shops, including end of range items, which are sold on to customers at discounted rates.

The charity, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year, has now announced it will create 60 new paid full and part-time roles, including a new early evening and Saturday fashion production shift, as it continues to expand.

This includes at the Burton and Cannock stores.

Sheila Brown, CEO and co-founder of the organisation, said: “The number of disabled children living without equipment is now at tragic levels – with 70 per cent of families reporting their children are living without essential disability equipment. Our mission is now to help even more families than ever before.

“Last year we helped over 11,000 UK children and families, but until our national campaigning work improves provision by the statutory services, we can’t let these children suffer – so we must do more.

“This is why we are expanding our production, stores, fund-raising and inservice delivery as part of our child and family support team.”

Newlife is seeking people of all ages and skills for full and part-time

roles.

Jobs on offer include retail roles, home-based administration posts, occupational therapy, and roles helping to deliver services to children and families, management.

Ms Brown added: “We have a fantastic group of staff, with many working for Newlife for over 15 years.

“We are a truly inclusive employer and welcome applications from everyone, including those who are, too often, disadvantaged in employment through age, disability or illness, those who need flexible hours due to carer responsibilities and due to benefit caps.”

Newlife has seven stores across the country. Those in Tamworth and Burton are recently opened and others are set to open in Newport, South Wales and in High Wycombe before Christmas.
