Fletcher’s third has him second overall

A LARGE team of Burton AC runners attended the second match in the North Midlands Cross Country League at Kettering.

First to race were the under-11 boys and Morgan Fletcher followed up his second place in the first match with third, on a much longer course than he had raced over before, to settle in joint second overall in the standings at the halfway point.

Max Bates came 21st and the team are fifth overall.

Caitlin Mccarney led the Burton contingent in third place as she continues to run well in her first year of the age group and now sits joint third overall.

Saffron Bowley was fourth, Amelie Brown 10th and Burton won the team race on the day to lead the under-15 girls’ standings by 25 points.

Jonah Hearn was 10th in the boys’ race is fifth in the standone Aleksander Tutt ran a welljudged race, finishing strongly in 20th and sits joint 11th. Also, Imogen Barker, on her league debut, was 21st and Daniel Kolodziej 25th, bringing the boys’ team back sixth on the day and overall.

The under-17 girls and under-15 boys also ran at the same time. Breathing problems caused Maisie Trueman to drop out while second but Paige Barker came in fourth and is now joint second overall, only point behind the leader.

Kamil Kolodziej was Burton’s only under-15 boy and came in 21st for 13th overall.

Cara Mccarney was 12th for ninth overall. Megan Smith came 22nd to sit 15th in the league and completed the girls’ scoring to make them third on the day – it was good enough for them to increase their lead overall by 10 points after winning in the first round.

Owen Morgan was the only Burton runner in the under-17 boys’ race and came 13th to sit eighth in the league

Cathy Mccarney, after watching her daughters in action, was the first Burton finisher in the ladies’ senior race, coming home 93rd. She is 54th ovedrall and sixth in the W45 rankings.

Nicola Long has struggled with injuries for the last few years, restrictin­g her running, but she was keen to take part and finished 123rd.

Callum Abberley got stuck in traffic and missed out on his normal preparatio­n and warm-up, getting there in time to come 35th in the men’s race. M60 runner Rob Sharratt got into his rhythm on the difficult course and came back in 215th place.
