Quy replacement Kean to get going at Burton
JAKE Kean is Burton Albion’s new head of goalkeeping, joining the club from National League side Notts County.
The Derby-born 30-year-old replaces Andy Quy, who has moved to the United States to take up a role in North Carolina with newlyformed Charlotte FC.
Kean had spent the last three years as a goalkeeping coach with Notts, while also being registered as a player – and he will remain so with Burton.
He will now work with first-team goalkeepers Ben Garratt, Ellery Balcombe, Callum Hawkins and Kieran O’hara, while also overseeing the development of the younger keepers coming through the Academy.
Kean began his career with Derby County in 2008 but moved on to Blackburn Rovers after a year and made his Premier League debut for Blackburn against Chelsea in 2012.
He made 44 appearances for Rovers in all and took in loans with Hartlepool United, Rochdale, Yeovil Town and Oldham Athletic.
He then moved on to Norwich City but did not make an appearance for then, adding loans with
Colchester United and Swindon Town, then moveing on to Sheffield Wednesday in 2016.
He had two spells at Mansfield Town and joined Notts in 2019, making his debut in their first FA Trophy game after dropping out of the Football League and keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Chesterfield.
But he was already focusing primarily on coaching while remaining registered as a player.
“I really enjoyed my time at Notts but it was an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down to work with the gaffer and rest of the staff here at Burton,” said Kean.
“I’ve really enjoyed it over the last couple of days since coming through the door. The players and the staff have been great and I’m looking forward to getting started at MK Dons.”
Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said: “Jake will oversee the development of the goalkeepers throughout the club and we’re looking forward to working with him.
“He will be making sure our first team goalkeepers are competing with each other to a high standard and will help with the progression of goalkeepers through the Academy.”
