Kirchner still looks at club’s potential
PROSPECTIVE Derby County buyer Chris Kirchner watched the Rams suffer a 2-1 defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Monday.
The 34-year-old flew over for the game - the third home fixture he has attended since making his interest in the club known.
The American businessman had plenty to say following the game, posting a long message to fans on Twitter.
“Great atmosphere at Pride Park last night on a cold night,” Kirchner wrote.
“Good to see the fans again. Not the ideal result, but that’s football. One result doesn’t sway my view on the potential of Derby County or change my belief that a great, longlasting club can be resurrected from its current state.
“Thanks to Wayne, the staff and the players for the hospitality as always. Back to work as the next few weeks will determine the outcome for us. See you all again soon.”
After the game, Rams manager Wayne Rooney was asked about the search for a new owner, Kirchner’s continued interest and whether the two of them managed to catch up with each other.
“I have shown my commitment to the club, he has shown his commitment,” said Rooney.
“Of course I understand it is difficult. There are obstacles to get over and I think for everyone’s sake the quicker this can get done it makes my job easier and it allows me to start putting things in place.
“Hopefully, it can get done as soon as possible.
“I have had conversations with him and, as I said, his commitment is there, whether that is Championship or League One.
“I know it is a difficult job for the administrators. As they have said there are a few options on the table but, for the sake of this club, we need it done as quick as possible.”
