Polish takeaway selling up after just nine months

OWNER BLAMES PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCES AND IS LOOKING FOR A BUYER TO TAKE IT ON

A BURTON takeaway which only opened this year is to close – and the owner has launched plans to sell all its equipment.

Hungry Eyes Polish Street Food opened in March 2021. Its name is inspired by music from the classic film Dirty Dancing – much loved by owner Iwona Kowalewska.

The Hill Street business, which employs four people, specialises in serving Polish food, offering kebabs, burgers, hot dogs, and Polish-style pizza baguettes. It also ran a campaign giving free food to the homeless and achieved a fivestar hygiene rating.

However, Ms Kowalewska has announced the takeaway is set to close.

She has not set a closing date and hopes a buyer will come in to carry on the business.

However, if that does not happen soon, the owner will be selling everything inside the Stapenhill business – including its CCTV camera system, kebab burners, hotdog rollers, fridges and freezers.

She said: “With great sadness, we are forced to sell our business. Due to unexpected personal circumstances, we are unable to carry on with the business. Our plans were to open another branch in Derby, Birmingham or West Bromwich, but due to health issues, that project became impossible.

“This business has huge potential to be a large, well-known restaurant in the whole of the UK, with the option for it to develop into a franchise.

“The business currently is still running but only on weekends. We need to sell it as soon as possible as every week it is becoming much harder for us to manage it.

“We have a lot of regular and loyal customers which attend our restaurant each week.

“It is a very busy business having a large volume of customers which are coming in, ordering by phone and through our own website.

“We do deliveries within a seven-mile radius of our location. Recently, we also expanded our delivery service to Derby.

“Many local pubs, organisations and large groups of people from warehouses and factories based in Burton are ordering our food through our delivery service.

“We are a very well-known and recognisable restaurant in Burton and the surrounding locations.

“A lot of regular customers are visiting us from Derby, Tamworth Lichfield, Stoke on Trent etc, especially on Sundays. We are positively surprised, because there are still new customers visiting us and they are becoming regular customers immediately.

“That means we are still growing and that we have great potential to become a very popular restaurant in the UK.

“We offer takeaway, delivery, or on-site food.”

Ms Kowalewska is hoping to sell on the business to someone willing to carry it on as a takeaway, along with all its equipment. However, if she does not find a buyer, she will sell off the equipment.

The business is completely ready to be bought at any time.

The new owner does not need to do anything except have the ability to take on knowledge, skills and experience.
