Firm’s staff are collecting gifts for Santa to give to needy kids this Christmas

Goodies will be distribute­d by town good cause the young ones burton

A burton firm is supporting children’s charities this festive season and staff have been collecting toys and goodies to give away to needy youngsters this Christmas.

russell roof tiles, which employs 140 people at nicolson Way and Wetmore Lane in burton, is helping the Young ones burton, which provide gift boxes for children aged 0-17 that are requested by family support agencies, for children in need or crisis.

Staff at the company have collected hundreds of pounds worth of goods, toys and items for the gift boxes, as well as providing free packaging materials and transport to deliver the boxes in time for Christmas.

Andrew Hayward, managing director of russell roof tiles, said: “It’s essential for all businesses to support their local communitie­s to do their bit, especially at Christmas which is a challengin­g time for many people. We’ve been overwhelme­d with the generosity of our staff who have come together to help these amazing local charities and I’m pleased we can play a small part in assisting children and young people.” Sheila Meacham, treasurer for the Young ones burton said: “We’re delighted to have been chosen by russell roof tiles this Christmas and thank everyone across the company for their kind and generous support. these wonderful donations will bring smiles and happiness to many local children at this special time of year.”

Last Christmas, russell roof tiles donated £6,000 to local community projects as part of a 12 Days of Christmas community programme to ensure that they were supporting as many community projects as possible. Staff selected 12 local charities and donated £500 to each. the charities benefittin­g included a wide range of good causes, larger and much smaller organisati­ons.

Since 2016, the company has donated more than £110,000 to various causes and community projects, close to its sites, such as Shropshire, Staffordsh­ire & Cheshire blood bikes, Derby & burton Hospitals Charity and Dumfries and Galloway Health board Endowment Fund and encourages and supports its employees with fund-raising.

this Christmas the company is also supporting Westsound Cash for Kids – a children’s charity local to the firm’s site in Lochmaben in Scotland that helps children across Dumfries & Galloway.
